Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's Day!!!

This week has been a good one for Colton. On Monday occupational therapy came for the first time and worked with him. She was impressed by the splints we already have for Colton's thumbs and hands. I've noticed this week though that its getting harder to get them around his wrists. It may be time for some new ones soon. She tried to get him to wake up but he was having none of it! He pretty much slept through the whole session. Tuesday was spent relaxing and then on Wednesday we had another visitor.

We learned while in the hospital that our insurance would not cover everything that Colton needed. They will not cover his feeding supplies or normally his nursing care. This necessitated that we apply for medicaid. This is not something that I take lightly. I never wanted to rely on government assistance, but in order to get everything that Colton needs this was something we needed to do. We do not qualify based on income, but we hope we qualify based on Colton's diagnosis. Wednesday we had some one come and get all the paperwork filled out for another part of Medicaid, called the waiver. This will get him more services and cover some other equipment that he will need in the future. We are still waiting on his Medicaid to be approved and then the waiver can be approved.

Wednesday night Colton got a bath and we weighed him. He's up to 10 pounds 10 ounces!  He had to get his Synagis shot to help prevent RSV and we needed a new weight.

Thursday grandma and grandpa came over for dinner and a visit. Grandma loved on Colton for a long time and he loved it. On Friday physical therapy came for the first time. She was great! She got Colton out of his pack and play and held him and moved him every which way. Colton tolerated it very well! He was awake the whole time and interacted with her. She also suggested that we get Colton some resting braces for his feet.

We have noticed that Colton is moving his arms with more intention lately. He has tried to bring his hands up toward his mouth. The other night we were getting him ready for bed and he was crying. I gave him his pacifier and he went to town! He calmed himself and went to sleep. We bought him a mirror and he loves looking at him self and bringing his hand up toward the mirror. I had a video of it, but I can't get it to send so I can post it here :(  This happened this week as well...

He broke out of his sleep sack three times!

It's been nice to see him progress lately, however we are cautiously optimistic at the same time. This coming week should be spent relaxing and continuing our routine. Colton goes to the pediatrician on Tuesday for a weight check. I have to go back to work in two weeks. I am not looking forward to that. I have enjoyed being at home with Colton.
